Barton United FC 3 Lichfield City FC Reserves 3

lichfieldcityfcLichfield City’s reserves made the short trip down the A38 to take on in-form Barton United in the Pedigree League.

Paul Holt’s second-string produced a dogged display to come away with a share of the spoils following an entertaining 3-3 draw.

City started slowly and found themselves a goal down after 10 minutes but top-scorer, Chris Ashley, bagged his tenth goal of the campaign to put City back on level terms.

However, the hosts continued to pour forward, and took a 2-1 lead into the break.

The second half saw the game open up and City duly equalized through Aarhon Mahon after good work from Lloyd Dunnet. Barton responded immediately though to take a 3-2 lead.

Lichfield leveled for a third time when Ashley Bennett’s perseverance paid off as he beat Barton`s keeper at the near post with just five minutes remaining.

Reserve team boss Holt said:

“Barton have been flying off late so I knew it would be a tough game. They are a big physical side and we matched them in every department.

“It was nice to score at the death after conceding a goal in our last league game. We are still right up there and I’m pleased with our progress so far this season.”
